Elaine drove one of her BMW SUVs and we motored to Arroyo Grande. It was about a four hour drive. Because it was a weekend, the traffic up 101 was not heavy. The weather was beautiful, not too warm and not cloudy.

In Arroyo Grande we turned off 101, and drove through the old town and into the hills. The entrance to Elaine’s and Kathie’s and Tom’s acreage now has a large sign, “Barking Dog Ranch.” Tom probably master-minded the construction of the sign, which stands about 15′ tall. I don’t know who did the letters but they were easy to read.

Thanks to Elaine’s driving her Lexus hybrid SUV, I was able to take a present to Scott and Corey Sims on the birth of their baby, Sophia Jean. The drive from Elaine’s home in Santa Monica was to Carlsbad, then to Sumi’s rest home in San Diego, then back to Elaine’s. I’m sure the total miles was 350-400 miles. Elaine drove it all.

At Scott’s, the baby was one month and one day old. She is a beautiful baby and she should be–she has a beautiful heritage. Scott and Corey fixed up a baby’s room, right where the steps come to the second floor landing. A closet about half of one wall wide was full of clothes for her. I doubt that she will be able to wear them all.

It was good to see them happy. I got to carry Sophia for a half-hour or so. It was a bit shaky. I would be old enough at 87 to be Sophia’s great grandfather.
